Fierce Wireless reports that Verizon - the largest carrier in the U.S. plans to offer shared data plans (data plans for multiple devices) to customers in 2012.
CEO Lowell McAdam revealed Verizon's plans at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference.
Fierce Wireless reports:
McAdam said that customers who are dealing with four or five screens--smartphones, tablets and USB modems for laptops and the like--do not want to pay for all of those devices on separate bills, and neither does Verizon. "I think in 2012 we will see it," McAdam said at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference. "We have been working on this for a couple of years. Getting to one bill and getting to account-level pricing is our goal."
This is great news for users who own multiple mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad as they will be able to use just one data plan across all their mobile devices or share a single data plan among family members. As of now users can only share voice minutes across different phones and users via family plans.
What do you think about Verizon's plan to offer shared data plans? Would you opt for it?
