Last month, developers of Sparrow - an extremely popular email client for Mac that offers Gmail integration with multiple accounts, labels, Priority Inbox and a Unified Inbox have released their much-awaited app for the iPhone.
They've released an update for their iPhone app, which includes the following new features:
Send & ArchiveShow/hide dock badge per accountOnly show specific labels and foldersBuilt-in web browserEmpty trash and empty spamThey have also fixed the following bugs in v1.1.
Authentication issue with some Google apps accountCustom SMTP for AliasSparrow for iPhone v1.1 still doesn't include support for push notifications, which is one of the biggest deal breakers of the app. The developers have promised that he will add the push notification feature with or without Apple in the next version in a blog post, which is great news as Sparrow with Push Notification will be the perfect Gmail app.
What’s up on Push?
Thanks to your amazing support, we feel confident that Apple might revise its position on the Push API. We’ll submit a first version of Sparrow 1.2 including it. This might delay Sparrow 1.2 validation but we’re already working with some partners to include Push in future versions of Sparrow without needing Apple clearance.
Push is coming. If Apple can’t help us yet, we have other ideas.
Until then at least jailbreakers can use the free jailbreak tweak called Sparrow Push available in Cydia that adds Push Notification support (minus iOS Notification Center integration).
Sparrow for iPhone is available in the App Store for $2.99 (App Store link).
