Apple TV Disappears From Best Buy’s Website; Launch of Next Gen Apple TV Imminent?

AppleInsider has discovered that the second generation Apple TV is no longer available on Best Buy's website, which is leading to speculations that Apple could launch the next generation Apple TV soon.

AppleInsider reports:

Though BestBuy.com carried Apple's set-top box as recently as the 2011 holiday season, the device was nowhere to be found on the retailer's website as of early Friday.

AppleInsider contacted the company's sales division to inquire about stock of the Apple TV. A Best Buy salesperson was unable to say when exactly the device had been removed from the website's listings. "I don't recall seeing them for a while," he said.

"At this point in time, it doesn't look like we'll be getting [the Apple TV] back," the representative said after performing an inventory check.

Meanwhile, Apple TV is currently available on Apple's website and also on Amazon.

Ever since an excerpt from Steve Jobs biography revealed that he felt that he had finally cracked integrated Television sets, the chatter about Apple possibly releasing Televisions sets has got louder.

According to a rumor last week, Apple is actively working with Canada’s Rogers Communications and BCE Inc. to launch their upcoming Apple television.

Interestingly, Best Buy had added more fuel to the fire by running a survey, which asked customers feedback about a potential Apple HDTV. It later clarified that the survey was a routine offer effectiveness survey.

Rumors have suggested that Apple could launch a television set as early as middle of this year, so the sudden disappearance of Apple TV from Best Buy stores does seem to be a mystery.
